Packaging in 2024 and Beyond

There are many new packaging trends that we’re seeing from new designs and colors to incorporating new technologies into packaging. Most notably, we’re seeing many companies transition to more sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions.

In this blog, we’ll take a deeper dive into what companies can do with their product packaging to make it more sustainable, what types of technology can be (and maybe should be) incorporated into packaging, as well as this year’s latest and greatest trend designs and colors for 2024.

Sustainability

There is a significant push to move towards complete sustainable packaging in 2025. But what does it mean to be “sustainable”? While it is a loaded question, we’ll try to break it down the best we can! There are different ranges of comfortability when it comes to sustainable solutions for product packaging. Companies may want to make small changes so as not to sacrifice the overall feel and look of their packaging. Some companies want their entire packaging to be completely recyclable. We’ll go into the little and the big moves you can make! Let’s look into the most commonly used materials in our industry to get more into the details.

Plastics

The dreaded word! Or is it? What if we told you that you could reduce your carbon footprint with one simple change? Well, you can! A&H offers 100% post-consumer recycled plastics. This change can usually be made with very little cost difference and very little difference in the look and feel of the plastic

Paper/Cardboard

Companies can always switch from plastics to paperboard options to make an even more significant environmental impact. Paper is one of the most widely recycled materials in the world. Paper/board products can be used to manufacture many products including boxes, cards, accessory hangers and much more! We have even taken it a step further and are proud to offer hemp paper as a sustainable option. Harvesting and producing hemp paper is much more sustainable than regular paper products. You can read more about hemp paper, and the sustainable harvest process in our blog on hemp paper.

A&H is also proud to have our FSC certification in our QD factory in China, where all our materials are sustainably sourced based on FSC regulations.

Foils/inks

Well, how about the logos? How does that affect our environment? Many print foils are so thin, that the foil dissipates during the re-pulping process. The Foil Stamping and Embossing Association did a study on the recycling process of foil-printed materials. The study concluded that all paper that had foil on it was able to be recycled and reused through its normal process. For those still not wanting to take the chance, water-based inks are always an option! Water-based inks are fully recyclable and can allow customization and product branding just as well as foils!

Message

At this point, you might be asking yourself, “How will the consumer know to recycle this packaging?” The simple answer to that is you can add the proper recycling symbol right on your packaging. Additionally, you can also add your own story or messaging right to your product packaging sharing your commitment to the planet!

Trending Designs

Let’s shift our focus from the technical talk to the fun stuff - trends and design! For 2024, we put out 3 different trends: Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter, and Holiday. Many brands are using 2024 as a chance to rebrand/reimage. These trends might be insightful and helpful to you if you fit this category!

Spring/Summer Trends

This trend features a mixture of vibrant colors, contrasting finishes, and striking textures that are designed to set your packaging apart from the competition. The bright and eclectic color palettes show a common theme of escapism and encourage individuals to embrace their uniqueness. Fall/Winter Trends

For something completely different from Spring/Summer, this trend features botanical motifs and earthy, luxurious patterns and colors. This trend focuses more on the physical sense of touch and 3D elements giving the end consumer more of an experience with the product. This also creates a memorable unboxing experience that leaves a lasting impression and exudes an air of relaxed sophistication. It reminds us to take a moment to appreciate the world around us.
