When in doubt...DON’T Throw It Out!

With the holiday season now behind us, many of us are left wondering what to do with all the small boxes we received gifts and jewelry in.  We’ve got some great ideas on how to upcycle and re-use these little cardboard gems and reduce waste at the same time.

Instead of buying organization and storage containers, re-purpose these gift boxes and find the perfect use for them.

Let’s begin with small jewelry type gift boxes made from cardboard.  These are usually very durable and make great organization containers for your bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, kids’ playroom, craft room, office, garage and more.  Simply re-decorate with your favorite paper, fabric remnants, stickers, cut-outs, ribbon or just about anything you can think of, and use them in the bathroom for bobby pins, cosmetics, sponges, decorative soaps, hair barrettes, scrunchies, dental floss pics or containers, Q-tips, travel size toiletries and more.

Most of us have a junk draw or two in the kitchen and if you’re anything like me, it’s the most frustrating area in the house!  It’s overstuffed, messy, and I can never find what I am looking for.  Let’s put these little boxes to good use...right here in the junk draw!  Simply take a few empty cardboard gift boxes in varying sizes and re-decorate them with your favorite items (paper, fabric, stickers, ribbon, etc...), then glue them together in a formation that will fit in the draw and get your junk organized, once and for all.

But wait...there’s more!

The kitchen is one of those rooms that for some, serves many purposes including pantry, sewing room, craft room, office and utility area.  Upcycle a few of those small and medium boxes your jewelry and other gifts came in and start to organize your cupboards.  Use colors that match your kitchen and have fun decorating them.  Put them in your drawers or right on top of your counter.  Make them fun, whimsical, elegant...whatever your vibe.  They are great for things like tacks, spools of thread for a quick hem, toothpicks, stray buttons, paper clips, pads, pens, crayons, batteries, nails and screws, arts and crafts supplies, loose change, keys and odds and ends.

The living room is another great place to use upcycled gift boxes.  Items such as small tea lights and candles are perfect for small, medium and in some cases, large re-purposed gift boxes.  You can decorate them to match the room with beautiful fabrics, papers, ribbons and all your favorite doodads.

For those of you that have a garage, oh where do we begin when it comes to organizing all the small pieces?  These DIY upcycled storage boxes are perfect for nuts & bolts, nails, screws, drill bits, spare batteries, rubber bands, small parts and gadgets, etc...
